One of the most distinguishable elements of a moissanite gemstone is its "fire" or dispersion. Moissanite dispersion displays 2.4x more than a diamond, ruby, emerald or sapphire. Dispersion is a property of the moissanite gemstone caused as light radiates through the gemstone on certain wavelengths—each wavelength producing a specific color. Moissanite is extremely durable, tough and second only to a natural diamond in its resistance to scratching and abrasion. It carries a 9.25 on the Mohs Scale of hardness (see chart below).

Moissanite gemstones are tough, highly resistant to chipping or breaking and have heat resistant properties of up to 100 degrees Celsius.
