Ring Size Chart — How to Find Your Ring Size at Home
Share
Getting your ring size right is essential — especially for an engagement ring or wedding band that you'll wear every day. The good news: finding your ring size accurately is easier than you might think. Here's everything you need to know.
Why Ring Size Matters
A ring that's too tight is uncomfortable and can be difficult to remove. A ring that's too loose can spin on your finger and may fall off. Most rings can be resized, but some settings (like full eternity bands or tension settings) cannot. Getting the size right from the start saves time and ensures a perfect fit.
Method 1: Use a Ring Sizing Strip
The most accurate at-home method is a printable ring sizing strip or a plastic ring sizer (available from Gallo Jewelry). Wrap the strip around the base of your ring finger, mark where it overlaps, and read the measurement. Match the measurement to the ring size chart below.
Method 2: Measure an Existing Ring
If you already have a ring that fits perfectly, measure its inner diameter with a ruler. Then use this chart to find your size:
- 14.1mm inner diameter = US Size 3
- 15.3mm = US Size 4
- 15.9mm = US Size 4.5
- 16.5mm = US Size 5
- 17.2mm = US Size 5.5
- 17.8mm = US Size 6
- 18.4mm = US Size 6.5
- 19.1mm = US Size 7
- 19.7mm = US Size 7.5
- 20.3mm = US Size 8
- 21.0mm = US Size 8.5
- 21.6mm = US Size 9
Tips for Accurate Measurement
- Measure your finger at the end of the day when it's at its largest (fingers swell from heat, exercise, and salt intake)
- Avoid measuring when hands are cold — cold fingers can be up to half a size smaller
- For wide bands (wider than 4mm), consider sizing up half a size for comfort
- If your knuckle is notably larger than the base of your finger, size for the knuckle and have the ring sized for a snug fit with a ring adjuster
